Memorial Day is May 27, and many groups in the Austin area are honoring those who have served in the U.S. armed forces with events and services over the holiday weekend.


May 23
Military Appreciation Night at the Round Rock Express game

City of Lakeway Memorial Day commemoration

The city of Lakeway commemorates Memorial Day on Friday with a service at the Emmaus Catholic Parish. Guest speakers at the service include retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Frederick A. “Rick” Zehrer III. Those in the area can also visit Lakeway’s Freedom Monument at the Heritage Center Park, located down the road from the church at 963 Lohmans Crossing Road. 11 a.m. Free. Heroes Night Out Annual Military Appreciation BBQ in Georgetown

The annual event provides an opportunity for active-duty military, veterans, first responders and their families to gather and enjoy food, live music and a car show, among other activities. Travis High School Memorial Day Ceremony

The fifth annual ceremony will remember the Travis High School alumni who lost their lives serving the country. “Close Assault 1968” at Camp Mabry

Round Rock Memorial Day ceremony

‘Beer for the Fallen, BBQ for the Brave’ event at Family Business Beer Company

The Dripping Springs brewery is donating $1 to the Blue Star Mothers Orgnization for every pint sold at the event. Sun City Memorial Day Ceremony

The annual Memorial Day ceremony honors the men and women of the armed forces. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is the guest speaker.
