VA and VLB: Ask Two Different Questions
A VA-backed loan and Texas VLB assistance are different program conversations. Start by checking which options fit your situation.
“Can I use my VA benefit?” and “Should I ask about Texas VLB?” are not the same question. Treating every veteran mortgage as one product can make it harder to compare your actual choices.
Start with the program
A VA-backed mortgage uses a federal benefit and a participating lender. Texas Veterans Land Board housing assistance has its own eligibility and property requirements. Ask your lender to name the program being quoted and explain how it applies to you.
Ask whether a discount applies
The Texas General Land Office lists a discounted VLB home-loan interest rate for eligible veterans with a VA service-connected disability rating of at least 30%. That is a reason to ask a participating lender about your circumstances, not a promise that every veteran receives the same offer.
Compare the offer you can actually use
Bring the written loan terms, upfront costs and expected payment into one conversation. A program name alone does not tell you which choice best fits your purchase. Lender credit approval and program requirements still matter.
Keep the home search connected
Once the lender explains your options, use that information to guide a realistic property search. Ready Front can help connect the housing decision to the questions you need answered before an offer.

Check the VA Funding Fee Before You Budget
Some eligible veteran borrowers are exempt from the VA funding fee, but that does not make every closing expense disappear.
A Lower Rate Can Have an Upfront Price
For a veteran mortgage comparison, ask what you pay up front and how the loan fits your expected time in the home.
