The Story of Bee Cave
Bee Cave takes its name from the wild bee colonies early settlers found in the limestone caves along Barton Creek. For most of its history, the area was open ranchland along the winding Hwy 71 corridor west of Austin. The 2006 opening of the Hill Country Galleria — an open-air lifestyle center with restaurants, shops, a cinema, and live music stage — transformed Bee Cave into the commercial hub of the western Hill Country suburbs. The Backyard at Bee Cave (now the Germania Insurance Amphitheater) became a premier outdoor concert venue. Despite rapid commercial development, Bee Cave has maintained a Hill Country aesthetic with native stone facades and oak-preserving ordinances.
25 min to downtown Austin via Hwy 71 or Loop 360. Lake Travis is 10 min west. Hill Country wineries and Hamilton Pool are 20–30 min.
