The Story of Hutto
Hutto's identity is inseparable from its beloved concrete hippos. The tradition began when a circus hippo escaped from a train in the early 1900s and was discovered lounging in a local creek — an event that gave the town its mascot and the high school its team name (the Hutto Hippos). Founded in 1876 along the International-Great Northern Railroad, Hutto remained a cotton-farming community for over a century. Since 2000, the city has been one of the fastest-growing in Texas, attracting families with affordable new homes, a revitalized downtown, and Hutto ISD's expanding campus network. The Hutto Co-Op district has transformed old grain buildings into restaurants, shops, and gathering spaces.
30 min to downtown Austin via SH 130 toll or US 79 to I-35. Samsung manufacturing facility and eastern Williamson County employers are nearby.
