The Story of Pflugerville
Pflugerville traces its roots to the 1840s when German immigrant Henry Pfluger settled on Gilleland Creek. The farming community that grew around his homestead remained a quiet rural town well into the 1970s. As Austin's tech boom pushed development northward, Pflugerville transformed into one of the metro's most affordable and diverse suburbs while maintaining its small-town identity. The city leans into its outdoor heritage as the self-proclaimed "Trail Capital of Texas," with over 40 miles of hike-and-bike trails connecting neighborhoods, parks, and schools. Lake Pflugerville — a 180-acre reservoir built in 2006 — quickly became the community's centerpiece, ringed by a popular 3-mile trail. The annual Deutschen Pfest celebrates the city's German heritage with live music, food, and community spirit.
