The Story of Leander

Leander was established in 1882 as a stop on the Austin & Northwestern Railroad, named after Leander "Catfish" Brown, one of the railroad's earliest engineers. For over a century, the town remained a quiet agricultural community where cotton and cattle defined daily life. The 21st century brought explosive change — Leander became one of America's fastest-growing cities as families discovered its combination of affordable new construction, highly rated Leander ISD schools, and quick commuter rail access to downtown Austin via the Capital MetroRail Red Line. The Crystal Falls area, Travisso, and Bryson developments brought master-planned communities with resort-style amenities to the rolling Hill Country terrain north of Cedar Park.
