Liberty Hill
Hill Country roots, Austin opportunity
Local Overview
The Story of Liberty Hill
Liberty Hill was founded in the 1850s by settlers who prized the area's natural springs, rolling grasslands, and proximity to the Gabriel River. Named for a local gathering spot under a liberty pole, the community maintained its ranching character for over 150 years. The construction of Ronald Reagan Boulevard (SH 29) connecting to I-35 and Toll 183A opened Liberty Hill to Austin commuters in the 2010s, triggering one of the most dramatic growth surges in Williamson County. Master-planned communities like Santa Rita Ranch, Northgate Ranch, and Bridle Gate brought thousands of new homes to a town that still hosts Friday night rodeos. The city carefully balances its ranching heritage with modern growth.
